Associated Press to support mobile platforms with ad supported service

News media group Associated Press has said that they are now going to reduce the fees paid to it by newspaper companies which are now struggling to compete against the online news sources.

The company further announced that they are going to provide a new ad-supported mobile service to deliver news stories to cell phones.

AP said that this mobile service is already being tested in partnership with several newspapers. It would carry local news and would be custom delivered to mobile users.

They are working with mobile phone makers to create customized interfaces to deliver news to these devices.

AP added that iPhone is their main target though the service would be compatible with most modern devices.

Dean Singleton, AP’s chairman spoke about the new developments: “We have a very simple message for you today. We hear you. We understand that these are both difficult and historic times for the industry.”
