Seagate targets maker of solid state drives with patent infringement lawsuit
Seagate Technology is the dominating player in the hard disk market. The company had mentioned in the past that they were not scared of the emerging competition from the solid state drive market as they owned a lot of patents in this field.
They are now using those patents.
Seagate has now filed a lawsuit against STEC Inc. related to patent infringement.
They are claiming that STEC is infringing on four of their owned patents. These patents are related to how such drives interface with computers.
Patrick Wilkison, vice president of marketing and business development at STEC has said that Seagate did not contact them before filing this lawsuit.
William D. Watkins, chief executive of Seagate had this to say: “It’s not a big financial issue yet because the market is just taking off. But that’s why we want to set things straight now.”
