BMW delay plans to launch Mini in India
BMW has said that they are now delaying their plans to launch their Mini compact car in the Indian market.
They were scheduled to bring the Mini to India sometime next year.
BMW said in a statement: “Last week, we have taken a decision to scrap plans to bring Mini by 2009. After the feasibility study we had undertaken, it is clear to us that it will not be viable to bring the car that soon.”
However, they are still interested in bringing the Mini in India sometime in the future.
BMW added: “Probably in another one to one-and-a-half years, we will have a re-look at the issue and assess the market again.”
BMW Mini was going to be priced at around Rs. 20 lakh. This would have made it a very expensive buy considering several luxury models are available in this price bracket.
The company is currently working on bringing their 4.8 liter X5 in the Indian market. It would be priced at around Rs. 80 lakhs.
