Wikipedia to get a print edition in Germany
German publishing giant Bertelsmann has announced that they would be launching a print edition of Wikipedia.
Wikipedia is one of the most popular online destinations to look for information on anything. It is open for editing to anyone who has information to share with others.
Bertelsmann Lexicon Institute said in a statement that they would launch the print edition based on content from the Wikipedia in September this year.
They are planning to include the 50,000 most commonly used search terms of the last two years.
The company said that since Wikipedia is updated on a daily basis by thousands of contributors, this edition is likely to be more updated compared to other reference books.
It added: “The Wikipedia encyclopedia will help allow knowledge to be spread worldwide and become more accessible. The abridged, one-volume print edition will reach new target groups which will get to know the Wikipedia project and take part in it.”
