Sun Microsystems acquires Montalvo Systems
After Apple, it’s the turn of Sun Microsystems to acquire a microprocessor company.
Sun has announced that they are acquiring microprocessor startup Montalvo Systems.
The financial aspects of the deal have not been disclosed to the media.
Company representative Dana Lengkeek said in a statement: “We believe acquiring these assets will enhance the current and future products we are developing and expect them to contribute to future generations of Sun’s microprocessor technology which will in turn drive additional differentiation for Sun’s Systems products.”
Sun continues to remain one of the very few companies which develop microprocessors for their own range of computer products.
Their UltraSparc T2 is designed to run Solaris and Linux operating systems.
