001 Comment about technology...
The space shuttle like any other space age technology
must be constantly evaluated and improved upon. Only then
can we be sure it can be safe enough to continue to use.
In my opinion it is possible to make space traval safer
and have it be a useful tool for the improvement of the human condition.
One such avenue would be to have escape pods much like our previous
saturn fives capsule sitting in the shuttle cargo bay and carry its
crew during launch and landings. I think useing older technology to its
fullest can get us where we must go much quicker than re-inventing the
wheel from scratch. This is just one example that I
have had and wondered why there hasn't been any research to try
such a thing. If our governmet would spend some time and money
getting technologists together with the right types of grants
we probably never would have had the shuttle disasters of the
past. Safety can always be improved upon.

The space shuttle is an old and complicated vehicle using two propulsion technolgies as boosters. Each must work flawlessly every time time. The Rutan Spaceone is simple and far less costly. Maybe NASA could learn something. There is too much at stake with peoples lives on the line. The shuttle has provided invaluable information only limited by what scientific minds can devise in capturing the mysteries of space.
NASA should stop patching up the old and replace the shuttle with something less complicated.
