Vodafone to sell iPhone in 10 countries including India
Mobile service provider Vodafone has announced that they have now secured a deal to sell Apple iPhone in 10 markets worldwide.
These markets include Australia, India, South Africa, Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal and Turkey.
These phones are likely to be sold in a contract package in most of these countries.
Apple iPhone currently on sale in United States, Britain, France, Germany, Ireland and Austria. Mobile users in other markets have to use a hacked version of the device offering less functionality.
It’s no secret that Apple iPhone would be in use in most of these countries already. People have been importing and hacking iPhones since the time it was launched in the US market. It is very easy to buy an unlocked iPhone even here in India if you are ready to pay the price.
The question is whether Vodafone would be able to price the device competitively in markets like India? Whether they would be bringing the rumored second generation iPhone that should support 3G? How would they tackle the competition from unlocked imported iPhones which are expected to remain cheaper compared to local edition?
