Japan wants to add copyright fee to Apple iPods
Japan’s Cultural Affairs Agency has now proposed that the government should add a new tax on the price of Apple iPods and other media players.
This new tax would be used to compensate right holders who suffer due to massive digital media piracy.
This additional fee would be similar to what they charge on the price of blank recordable media and products.
The agency now wants this fee to be extended to media players and recorders which have a hard disk for storing media.
This new tax could be implemented as early as 2010.
