Larousse takes on Wikipedia in France
Wikipedia has a new rival now at least in France.
Publishing house Larousse has announced the launch of their online French language encyclopedia.
This service is offering free access to their dictionary and is open to web users to submit content.
The company said that the user submitted content would be identified as such to keep it separate from their own services.
Larousse representative Line Karoubi added: “People are more and more used to this abundance and are able to distinguish between reference articles and those expressing a point of view.”
Google is also working on a potential Wikipedia challenger named Knol.
