Dell keeps on ignoring AMD over Intel

In the recent days, AMD has consistently beaten Intel over the advancement of technologies. They released their 64-bit processors in the market first and now they again took the initiative when they successfully demonstrated a working dual core version of its Athlon 64 processor for desktops. In fact, they would be soon launching retail versions of this chip for mass scale deployment.

What is disappointing is that PC Manufacturing Giants like Dell have since long ignored this underdog of the PC Processor market. Dell has stuck with Intel with their desktop and server range of computer products.

A Dell representative recently told the media that the company does not intend to broaden its portfolio with AMD offerings. This was later also confirmed by the Dell CEO Kevin Rollins who said: “From our discussions with customers, demand is not significant enough to force a major shift from us. If our customers get to the point where they are consistently telling us that they think is a better technology, we certainly have the wherewithal to add that to the mix. We’re not blind to what’s out there.”

Statistics show that AMD has continuously gained market share in the last couple of years. However, it is still far behind Intel in the overall statistics. Current estimates put AMD share in the market at around 7% compared to Intel’s 93%. With a massive lead like this, it would be sometime before Intel would be worried about AMD in the near future.
