One Laptop Per Child set to re-launch Give One Get One program

The OLPC project has announced that they are soon going to resume their Give One Get One program which enables customers to buy an XO Laptop for USD 400. Every laptop sold through this offer results in donation of one laptop to a child in a developing nation.

Nicholas Negroponte announced this while revealing details on the second generation of the “XO” computer.

He said that the project aims to come out with the second edition of the XO Laptop in 2010. It would be smaller and more energy efficient. The second generation device is expected to feature two touch screens. It is also likely to be nearer to the original expected price level of USD 100.

Negroponte said that they are now targeting to bring the cost of the laptop down to USD 75. Currently they sell the device for around USD 188 to the governments in developing nations.
