OLPC showcases XO-2 laptop images
Nicholas Negroponte, chairman of OLPC has showcased the images of the next generation XO Laptop which they are calling XO-2.
They are aiming to start manufacturing this new laptop in 2010. OLPC aims to bring the cost of manufacturing the device down to around USD 75.
The new edition XO laptop would be nearly half the size of current XO notebook. It would feature two touch screen displays and no hardware keyboard.
The laptop would feature a software-based touch-sensitive keyboard.
Negroponte said that they would begin by marketing the device as an e-book reader though it would be a fully functional laptop device.
He added: “The XO-2 will be a bit of a Trojan horse. Currently developing nations such as China and Brazil are spending $19 per student per year on books.”

This is pretty intense. I would get this if it was anything like a netbook. It looks neat, but does it have any things like “RAM, Harddrive, CPU”? It says it’s a fully functional laptop but in what way? Can it go on the internet, IM, word process? I would be curious to know thanks.

Also if it’s considered a laptop why would they market it as an E-book?
