Microsoft shutting down their book indexing operations
Software giant Microsoft has announced that they are now closing down their division which scans and indexes books from libraries.
This initiative was launched to take on similar services provided by arch rival Google.
A company representative said that the operations were no longer fitting in their plans for its own search services.
Microsoft would now be closing down two sites designed to help web users search through books and journals.
Satya Nadella, senior vice president of Microsoft’s search and advertising group added: “We believe the next generation of search is about the development of an underlying, sustainable business model for the search engine, consumer and content partner.”
Book searches would now be forwarded to services provided by non-Microsoft sites.
