Facebook in privacy related issues in Canada
Canada’s federal privacy commissioner has revealed that they are now looking into the Facebook social networking platform for potential privacy related violations.
The complaint was filed by a group of students at the University of Ottawa who said that the service has committed 22 violations of the law.
One of the students, Harley Finkelstein spoke about their findings: “There’s definitely some significant shortcomings with Facebook’s privacy settings and with their ability to protect users.”
Facebook chief privacy officer Chris Kelly responded in a statement on these new developments: “We’ve reviewed the complaint and found it has serious factual errors — most notably its neglect of the fact that almost all Facebook data is willingly shared by users.”
