Toshiba staying away from Blu-Ray format for now

Toshiba lost the next generation format war when they announced their exit from the HD DVD industry.

The company had developed the HD DVD format and their exit meant that this format was dead and Sony won with their Blu-Ray format.

However, Toshiba has now said that they are not planning to launch Blu-Ray players under their own brand for the time being.

A market source said: “Toshiba President Atsutoshi Nishida said his company will not market DVD players that are compatible with Blu-ray.”

The company instead aims to develop advanced DVD players which would be capable of displaying “high resolution images from regular DVDs.”
