Toyota Prius coming to India next year!

Economic Times is reporting that Japanese automaker Toyota would bring their superstar hybrid model Prius to Indian market next year.

This could be their response to the upcoming launch of Honda Civic Hybrid in India.

The company is likely to bring the car to India as CBUs (completely-built-up units). This would prove to be an expensive route as it would double the cost of the vehicle.

Toyota Prius is expected to cost between Rs 18-22 lakh in India as a result.

This would make it a novelty vehicle only few would afford here in India. But it would be a start.

The recent price hike means that the customers are looking at alternative fuel powered vehicles. Indian government needs to think about promoting this segment of the market and provide subsidies and tax rebates on these cars.
