SanDisk to target flash memory at low cost computers for growth
SanDisk has said that they are planning to target the market for low cost computers to boost the demand for their solid-state drives.
Solid-state drives are increasingly being seen as potential replacements for traditional hard disks.
However, they are smaller in capacities and higher capacity drives are too expensive.
Market analysts however believe that this new generation of drives could end the domination of companies like Seagate in the storage industry.
Doreet Oren, director of SanDisk’s product marketing said in a statement: “There are more and more companies that have joined in to make such laptops for a second computer for many people. We expect this market is going to take off and be the primary market this year and the next.”
The company is expected to launch their new SSDs for low cost computers this year. These would be available in capacities of 4GB, 8GB and 16GB.
