Hewlett-Packard to launch 8 notebooks powered by AMD Puma

AMD Puma platform coming up

Hewlett-Packard has announced that they would begin by launching eight new laptops powered by the AMD Puma platform.

These include Pavilion dv4, Pavilion dv5, Pavilion dv7 and Compaq Presario CQ50.

AMD had showcased the Puma mobile platform at the Computex exhibition in Taipei. It comes loaded with a dual-core Turion X2 Ultra processor, an M780 chipset, and a Wi-Fi chip.

The company added that the platform also comes with ATI’s Radeon HD 3000 graphics chips.

AMD claims that the major advantage of this new platform is the inclusion of a hardware decoder for high-definition video formats. This enables the support for new formats like Blu-Ray.

Intel itself is set to include a similar chip in the Cantiga chipset which would become part of their Centrino 2 platform scheduled for August this year.
