Plutoids named after ex-planet Pluto

Pluto was stripped of its Planet status 2 years back.

However, fans of the planet Pluto have something to cheer up for now.

The International Astronomical Union has said that they are now going to call Pluto and similar dwarf planet like bodies as Plutoids.

They have defined Plutoid as celestial bodies in orbit around the Sun farther away than Neptune.

They are required to have near-spherical shape. And they should not have swept up other, smaller objects in their orbits.

Eris is another known Plutoid.
