Microsoft said to have offered USD 1 billion for Yahoo Search
Microsoft has stated in a letter to their employees that they offered USD 1 billion to Yahoo for their search assets. This was in addition to another USD 8 billion investment in the rest of the company.
The talks ended without any agreement and Yahoo decided to go ahead with a collaborative deal with Google.
Google would now be supplying their ads to some Yahoo search result pages in US and Canada.
Kevin Johnson, president of Microsoft’s platforms and services group mentioned in the email: “Taken together, we believe that our proposal would have created total value for Yahoo’s shareholders in excess of $33 per share.”
It is yet to be seen if Microsoft would challenge the deal between Yahoo and Google in courts.
