Nokia acquires Plazes social networking service
World’s largest mobile phone maker Nokia has announced that they are acquiring Plazes.
Plazes is a social networking service that helps friends locate each other using GPS enabled mobile devices.
The service is currently in beta testing and enables the user to update their locations and activities.
They can do that directly on the website itself or through text messages.
This is Nokia’s third major investment in this field after they acquired Gate5 and Navteq.
The two companies did not disclose the value of the deal.
