iSuppli: Apple iPhone 3G costs USD 173 to make
Market researcher iSuppli has come out with their much awaited study and the company claims that the Apple spends just around US$173 to manufacture a unit of their Apple iPhone 3G.
The company last month surprised the analysts when they announced that the 8GB edition of the Apple iPhone 3G would retail or USD 199 with a contract.
The 16GB edition would sell for USD 299.
iSuppli said that Apple did well by using a lot of parts from the first generation iPhone in this new version. They saved a lot in manufacturing cost by doing that.
The most expensive part in the Apple iPhone 3G is the flash memory which costs $22.80 for the 8GB model. The touchscreen costs Apple around USD 20.
However, these are all estimates and do not include the money spent on research and development of the product or software and marketing costs.
