Cyrillic web addresses coming to town soon!
Russian communications ministry official Vladimir Vassiliev said in a statement that Russians would soon be able to create internet addresses in Cyrillic alphabets.
This announcement came after the ICANN meeting which took some major decisions which could change the way web worked.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has already said that they want the Russians to be able to create domain names in Cyrillic to promote the language in the world.
The country currently has around 35 million internet users. The government expects this number to rise to 46 million users by the end of this year.
