YouTube to mask user information in data supplied to Viacom
Viacom and YouTube have agreed that the data provided to Viacom would have the user information masked.
Google owned YouTube service said in a blog post on this new development: “We remain committed to protecting your privacy and we’ll continue to fight for your right to share and broadcast your work on YouTube.”
Viacom had sued YouTube claiming that they encourage internet piracy by letting people upload copyrighted media on their video sharing service.
They got the permissions from the court to get logs related to YouTube usage. They aim to prove through these logs that copyrighted media is more popular than user generated material on the YouTube service.
