Intel set to launch second version of Moblin

Microprocessor industry giant Intel has said that they are preparing the second release of Moblin.

Moblin is Intel’s open-source platform for mobile computing.

The company revealed their plans at the O’Reilly Open Source Convention.

Intel has been working on this platform for their Atom processor which is designed for low cost mobile computing devices.

A company representative said: “Our focus as a company right now is on the Atom platform, but I’m sure other people in the community will drive it in other directions.”

Dirk Hohndel, chief Linux and open-source technologist at Intel added: “We’re going to open this up to the public. I want to see the community that really takes this project and runs with it and makes it their project.”
