Sony expand format support on their eBook reader
Sony has now decided to take on Amazon Kindle eBook reader by adding support for third party formats for eBooks on their own reader.
The company said that they would soon ship a software update for their own reader that would add support for format being adopted by several large publishers.
This would enable the owners of their Reader device to purchase eBooks from third party services.
Steve Haber, senior vice president of consumer product marketing for Sony Electronics said in a statement on this new development: “This upgrade opens the door to a whole host of paid and free content from third-party e-book stores, Web sites and even public libraries.”
Amazon currently offers support for only those eBooks which are sold through their own store on Kindle.
They have more than 140,000 eBooks available on sale for download.
