Intel to supply 500,000 Classmate PCs to Portugal

Intel has announced that they have received a major order for their Classmate PCs from the Portugal government.

The microprocessor company would be supplying as many as 500,000 computers based on the Classmate PC design.

With this, the US based company has almost matched the orders received by the OLPC project which was the first one to design a low cost computer for educational needs worldwide.

Intel added that they would now also serve as a technology adviser to Portugal’s Ministry of Public Works, Transportation and Communications.

Intel spokeswoman Agnes Kwan added that the end user would be able to choose the operating system they want to run on these machines. Intel provides both Windows and Linux OS options.
