YouTube criticized for just not doing enough by British MPs
UK’s Parliament’s Culture, Media and Sport Committee has said in a report that they are not satisfied by the steps taken by online media companies to control the content hosted on their service.
They were especially referring to the popular video sharing service YouTube which continues to stay in news for all the illegal content which is uploaded by its users.
The report said that these services end up having pornographic content hosted on the service and it takes a bit too long for users to report it and the company to remove it from the service.
YouTube responded by saying that they cannot speed up the process considering on an average around 10 hours of material is added every minute.
The report took it on with this response: “To plead that the volume of traffic prevents screening of content is clearly not correct. Providers such as MySpace have not been deterred from reviewing material posted on their sites. Pro-active review of contents should be standard practice for sites hosting user-generated content.”
YouTube is also in legal troubles from several sides for hosting copyrighted material on its servers.
