Britain’s Information Commissioner ok with Google Street View
Google has received the go ahead from the UK’s Information Commissioner to launch the Street View service in the market.
Information Commissioner said in a statement: “We are satisfied that Google is putting in place adequate safeguards to avoid any risk to the privacy or safety of individuals, including the blurring of vehicle registration marks and the faces of anyone included in Street View images. Although it is possible that in certain limited circumstances an image may allow identification of an individual, it is clear that Google are keen to capture images of streets and not individuals.”
They are satisfied by the online mechanism which enables the user to report any complaint on which Google takes prompt action.
Google Street View is already available for several major cities in the US market. They are now expanding the service to European cities.
