Facebook in deal with Intel for servers

Social networking service provider Facebook has said that they are collaborating with microprocessor industry giant Intel.

Facebook would now be using Intel processors for their server requirements.

The two companies would also now work together on “technology evaluation, benchmarking, and optimization of software for Intel architecture.”

Jonathan Heiliger, VP of technical operations at Facebook added: “Intel has demonstrated that the performance of their systems can help Facebook scale our infrastructure.”

Kirk Skaugen, VP and general manager of Intel’s Server Platforms Group said: “Intel is excited to engage with Facebook as they are a dynamic force in the evolution of the Internet.”

Facebook would be using Intel’s Xeon 5400 series processors for their new servers.

They are one of the most popular social networks along with MySpace.
