Google sued in India for its Blogger service

Online privacy seems to be taking a hit in India as Google has now been sued by an Indian company to reveal the name of a blogger who they claim is defaming them.

Gremach Infrastructure Equipments & Projects has filed the lawsuit asking the courts to order Google to reveal the name of the blogger.

The blog is being run by a pseudo writer named Toxic Writer on the Google’s Blogger.com service which enables anyone to have a blog without revealing his/her identity.

Wall Street Journal reported about this case: “At the present stage, there is merit in the contention … that the article put up by the defendant on the blog site is defamatory.”

This is nothing new. Google’s Orkut social networking service has asked to reveal identities of people who ran groups against the politicians in India. These people were then jailed for their actions.

There you have it my dear friend… Privacy in India has become a joke.
