Apple iPhone 3G in India

Airtel

At this moment the site is not updated to show the iPhone on the homepage. I do see a small graphic showing that the iPhone is coming to India on august 22. The point is… it is already August 22 here in India.

Of course, we have no 3G in India. So people would have to use EDGE to get connected. Slow and expensive for what we get here in India.

Airtel’s iPhone is locked to the company’s SIM card and would only work with an activated chip.

Customers would require connecting the iPhone to Apple iTunes before they can start using it! So, basically they would need an internet connection and a PC running Windows or Mac OS to get it activated.

For support, Airtel is currently pointing to Apple website. So, where do the customers go in case there is a problem? We are not sure.

Vodafone

The site shows the iPhone prominently on the homepage. That’s good.

Customer is thrown to the Apple’s website for guided tour, gallery, technical specification, user guide and product support.

Packages? There are no unlimited data packages for Vodafone customers of iPhone 3G. The best offer Vodafone has is for Rs. 999 a month which gives out 600 MB usage.
