NASA could extend the life of Space Shuttle
Experts are amused at the possibility that NASA is now considering plans to extend the life of their Space Shuttle fleet.
The US space agency is said to be looking at the idea of operating the Space Shuttle past its scheduled retirement in 2010.
They expect to be ready with their next-generation space platform by 2015.
An internal NASA email was quoted as saying: “We want to focus on helping bridge the gap of U.S. vehicles traveling to the ISS as efficiently as possible.”
NASA confirmed that this email was sent but said: “The e-mail is premature. The parameters of the study have not yet been defined.”
If the Space Shuttle fleet is retired in 2010, NASA would have to rely on Russian spacecrafts for tours to the international space station.
