GeoEye-1 launches with Google collaboration
GeoEye has announced that they have now launched their GeoEye-1 satellite.
They have a deal with Google for this satellite. Google gains exclusive rights to the imagery provided by this satellite.
The search engine giant would use the data on their mapping services like Google Maps and Google Earth.
GeoEye-1 satellite is also part of the NextView program of the U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.
Reports say that Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page were present at the launch event.
The company now is planning to launch GeoEye-2 satellite in 2011.
