MySpace Music set to be launched later this month

US based social networking service MySpace has announced that they would be launching their digital media store later this month.

This new service is named MySpace Music and it would become the latest challenger to the domination of Apple iTunes in the market.

The service is unique as it is designed to provide access to the users on the network.

They get access to any song from the catalogs of three of the biggest music companies out there.

MySpace has already collaborated with Universal, Sony BMG, and Warner Music. They are also in talks with EMI.

The music would be provided for free but it would be accompanied with ads.

If the user finds a music piece interesting enough to purchase it, he gets the choice to purchase it right there. The music is then delivered to the user’s machine through a service powered by Amazon. Cannot get more intuitive then this!

Luke Wood, executive VP of Universal’s Interscope Geffen A&M spoke about their partnership with MySpace: “This is how people discover music now. It’s not happening through people reading Rolling Stone. It’s not happening through the radio. It’s happening through social networks online.”
