European Union probing deal between Google and Yahoo

Yahoo earlier this year announced that they were collaborating with Google on a search advertising revenue sharing deal.

The deal would see Yahoo using Google powered ads on some of their search result pages in USA and Canada.

European Union has now said that they are probing into this deal signed between two of the biggest internet companies.

Jonathan Todd, a spokesman for European Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes said in a statement: “In mid-July, we decided to open a preliminary investigation on our own initiative into potential effects of the Google-Yahoo agreement on competition in the European Economic Area (EEA) market.”

This deal was one of the many steps Yahoo took to prevent getting acquired by Microsoft.
