Comcast provides detail on their new traffic management mechanism
US based internet service provider Comcast has already said that they are testing out new traffic management system in some cities and the results have been excellent.
The company has now revealed more on what is in store for their customers in the US market.
Comcast said that the new system is designed to give all users their “fair share” of bandwidth.
The focus is on customers who are heavy consumers of bandwidth on their network.
If the network faces congestion at any given time, the heavy users of bandwidth would be given lower priority for speeds to maintain the sanctity of the entire network.
This would mean that heavy downloaders might see their speeds going down for some duration while the network is congested.
Things would go back to normal for them as well as soon as the congestion is normalized.
This is much better than before when the company specifically targeted p2p users by using traffic shaping technologies.
The new system would not interfere with user’s internet usage of any specific application or protocol.
