Finland aims to provide broadband to all people by 2016
The Finnish government has said that they are now planning to provide high speed internet connectivity to all the citizens of the country.
They aim to achieve this goal by 2016.
The government said that this would help boost the productivity of its citizens.
They would be paying one third the cost of the project.
Harri Pursiainen, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications spoke about this plan: “I have estimated that building fibreoptic cable networks in areas where they would not be built commercially will cost around 200 million Euros, of which the government could pay a maximum of one third, so around 67 million Euros.”
Communications Minister Suvi Linden added: “More than 99 percent of households are expected to have access (by the year 2016). A couple of thousand households are situated in areas where getting a fibreoptic connection to two kilometers from the house is impossible.”
