SanDisk launches new media format named slotMusic
SanDisk has announced the launch of their new music format called “slotMusic”.
It is basically a memory card (microSD) which is smaller than a postage stamp and comes loaded with music files in MP3 format.
The company said that this format has been adopted by four major music companies – EMI, Sony BMG, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group.
They are now planning to make it available in stores with music from popular artists this coming holiday season.
Best Buy and Wal-Mart have also given their approval to this media format.
Daniel Schreiber, a senior vice president at SanDisk spoke about this concept: “Most non-iPod MP3 players already have card slots in them … and music-capable phones with card slots are selling at a rate of 750 million a year.”
