Google Phone G1 to arrive on October 22
The first mobile phone to be powered by Google Android mobile platform has been launched.
It would be available in the markets this October through T-Mobile in the US market.
The phone G1 has been priced at USD179 with a two-year contract. The cheapest Apple iPhone comes at USD 199 with a two year contract.
UK would get this phone in November. It would be launched in other markets next year.
HTC is manufacturing this mobile phone. The company incidentally is one of the largest makers of Windows Mobile Smartphones.
T-Mobile would for now only sell this phone in the markets where they have a ready 3G network. These include 21 cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Houston and Miami.
Google co-founder Sergey Brin spoke about the new developments: “Generally, we think if there are great (mobile operating systems) out there that let people have great devices and great applications, people use the Internet on their phones much more. And whenever people use the Internet more, they end up using our services, and ultimately, that’s good for our business. There’s no secret plan to have ads pop up or anything.”
