Large Hadron Collider down till next year
European Organization for Nuclear Research has announced that the Large Hadron Collider is now going to remain down till spring next year.
The engineers are working on finding out the latest problem with the machine.
They would need the time to check out everything before the machine can be started once again.
Robert Aymar, director-general of the European Organization for Nuclear Research said in a statement on the new developments: “Coming immediately after the very successful start of LHC operation on 10 September, this is undoubtedly a psychological blow.”
James Gillies, Cern’s director of communications added: “It’s usually around late March or early April that we start re-commissioning the whole accelerator chain. The LHC being at the end of that chain. It will take us a while to get beams injected into the LHC, but I think it’s fair to say this will be the priority for next year’s start-up.”
