Sony BWU-300S Blu-Ray drive launched

Japanese electronics manufacturer Sony has launched their third generation Blu-Ray drive BWU-300S.

Sony BWU-300S comes with capabilities to read and write Blu-ray media at speeds of up to 8X speed.

The company said that at peak speed, the drive can burn a 25GB disc in around 15 minutes. A dual layer 50GB disc can be written in half hour.

The drive is also capable of writing DVDs at up to 16X, CDs up to 48X. However, the burning speeds for DB-RE media is at 2X.

The company would sell this drive with a complementary Men in Black Blu-ray movie disc. Sony is delivering this drive with CyberLink’s software suite for capturing, authoring, editing, burning and viewing high-definition personal content.

It would retail for USD 400.
