Four billion mobile subscribers in the world by year end

International Telecommunications Union has said in a statement that they believe that the world would have as many as four billion mobile connections by the end of the current year.

ITU stated: “Since the turn of the century, the growth of mobile cellular subscribers has been impressive.”

This is largely possible due to boom in mobile user base in developing nations like India.

The world had around 3.3 billion mobile subscribers at the end of 2007.

The ITU said that the BRIC nations (Brazil, Russia, India and China) were the driving force in growth of mobile connections this year.

China alone now has more than 600 million mobile connections. India adds on millions of new users each month.
