MySpace Music launch disappoints left out independent labels

MySpace has launched their MySpace Music service and they feature music from all the four major labels in addition to some independent ones.

Now some left out indie labels are disappointed with the launch as they were left out.

MySpace said that they just could not get into a contract with every player out there for the launch event.

They are however interested in getting everyone on board. Merlin is one of the agencies which represent more than 12,000 independent labels.

Charles Caldas, chief executive of Merlin spoke about his feelings: “We’re extremely disappointed that they seem to misread their constituents so badly that they’ve ignored what we think is their core, their sweet spot, when they launched. MySpace is a brand that’s built its strength and built its power on the strength and diversity of the music it represents.”

MySpace co-founder and President Tom Anderson responded: “There’s definitely no one on this side that wants this to be a major-label only service. We’ve already got indie content and we want more indie content.”
