Research in Motion now a potential target for acquisition?
Research In Motion share price has gone down in the recent times (Apple iPhone is becoming more and more popular!).
Market reports are now talking about the possibility that the company could now become a potential target for acquisition.
And one of the companies which might be interested is Microsoft. They are the makers of Windows Mobile operating system but they do not manufacture any mobile handsets yet.
Microsoft has rejected the possibility of making mobile handsets to take on Apple iPhone but it seems like a good possibility for them.
Market analyst Peter Misek said in a statement: “RIM is a massive strategic fit. I’m fairly certain they have a standing offer to buy them at $50”.
However, RIM uses their own operating system and they have their own platform which could make it complicated for Microsoft to integrate it with their own Windows Mobile platform.
With Google now powering the Android mobile platform and HTC launching the first mobile device G1 powered by it, it becomes even more lucrative for Microsoft to get into the manufacturing business.
HTC is currently the dominating manufacturer of Windows Mobile based smartphones. However, they just might shift the focus to Google Android in the future!
