IBM opens Forbidden City: Beyond Space & Time
US based tech giant IBM has announced the launch of Forbidden City: Beyond Space & Time.
Forbidden City: Beyond Space & Time is the virtual version of the Forbidden City in China.
IBM had been working with Chinese authorities since the last couple of years to develop this virtual version.
The virtual version of the Forbidden City is said to be the first of its kind design for the famed Chinese cultural hub.
Henry Chow, chairman of IBM’s Greater China Group spoke at the launch of the web service: “The rich cultural heritage of China’s imperial past, embodied in the Forbidden City for over five centuries, is now brought to life and accessible to all through a virtual world. This initiative takes the online experience to a new level of innovation with rich content, educational storytelling, community and social networking features that represent the next generation of 3D Internet applications.”
Virtual Forbidden City is available as a free download on all the three popular platforms: Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
