Mobile phones in India might go a bit expensive

Mobile phone manufacturers in India are considering hiking the prices of their products in the Indian market.

They are facing problems due to the increasing value of dollar which makes it expensive for them to import the parts.

Motorola, Sony Ericsson, LG and Samsung have already confirmed that they are looking at the situation carefully and take a decision soon.

HTC Mobiles country head Anuj Sharma stated: “In the past six months, the dollar has appreciated dramatically against the rupee, pushing up our import costs. We will have to take a hike of about 10% across the range after Diwali.”

HTC is one of the few manufacturers which is importing all of their models for sale in India.

Spice Mobiles CEO Kunal Ahooja added: “A weakening rupee has adversely impacted our operating margins. Consequently, we will implement a 15% hike across the range. It is likely that most manufacturers will also have to raise prices.”
