Microsoft, Yahoo and Google form Global Network Initiative
Three of the largest internet giants Microsoft, Yahoo and Google have announced the formation of Global Network Initiative.
Through this initiative they are now agreeing to a new code of conduct to preserve free speech and privacy on the Internet.
All of these three companies are facing criticism on how they operate in countries like China.
These companies are said to block access content as directed by the Chinese government.
Since China is a big Internet market, they need to stay in compliance with country’s government to stay competitive there.
Mike Posner of Human Rights First spoke about the new developments: “This is an important first step. What this is is a recognition by all these tech companies, the human rights groups and social investors that there has to be a collective response to this growing problem.”
