Craigslist to step up control on prostitution ads

The operators of Craigslist have announced that they are going to keep a close eye on prostitution ads on the popular classifieds service.

This new initiative is part of their agreement with attorneys general in 40 states.

The deal would require the posters of such ads on the online service to provide a working phone number and pay a fee with a valid credit card.

Craigslist would have to reveal this information to law enforcement agencies if they are asked to do so.

The service has also agreed to file lawsuits against 14 companies which provide services to users to post the ads bypassing the security measures already in place.
