Apple and RIM gain market share from Nokia
Market research firm Canalys has released their latest report which shows that Apple and Research in Motion are taking away market share from Nokia.
Nokia remains the largest mobile phone maker in the world but they are struggling to compete against RIM and Apple in the smartphone market.
Canalys said that as per their data, Nokia’s market share in the smartphone market was down to 38.9 percent in the recent quarter compared to 51.4 percent a year before.
Apple increased their market share to 17.3 percent. RIM’s share was around 15.2 percent.
Apple’s performance is rather impressive considering they sell only one product in the market.
Canalys said in the report: “The introduction of the iPhone 3G in July and Apple’s expansion into many more countries helped propel the vendor to second place globally.”
The company added that they believe RIM would take the second spot away from Apple in the coming holiday season as they have enhanced their mobile range.
